W3C Compliancy
I often get prospective clients saying that someone has told them that their website
is not W3C Compliant and needs to be if they want to get the best results on Google.
So who are W3C ? well, on their website www.w3c.org they say:
The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is an international community where Member organizations,
a full-time staff, and the public work together to develop Web standards.
It was founded in 1994 by Tim Berners-Lee who wrote the first version of the "HyperText Markup Language" (HTML).
The W3C mission is to lead the World Wide Web to its full potential by developing protocols and guidelines that ensure
the long-term growth of the Web.
So, basically it is an organisation set up by people who consider that they know best how websites should be coded and
what the correct protocols and guidelines should be.
You will find that there are people FOR the W3C and people AGAINST the W3C.
You decide by looking at the following:
1. Search for website designers in your area and see how many actually adhere to the W3C guidelines.
2. When a website is W3C compliant you are entitled to display a W3C Compliant logo on your website, out of the billions of websites
on the internet how many have you come across that display these logos ?
3. If you do happen across a website displaying a W3C Compliant logo try clicking on it, whenever I have 50% of the time
the URL does not come back as Valid Markup and is not actually W3C Compliant.
Your website does not have to be W3C Compliant to be successful.
The following most successful websites on the Internet are NOT W3C Compliant:
Google - Ebay - Facebook - Twitter - Wikipedia - Amazon - Autotrader - PayPal - Yell.com
I think that proves the point.
