Analysing Competitors

Another question I get asked is: will you be analysing my competitors websites ?

Prospective clients usually ask me this because they have seen other SEO Companies include this as part of their service.

Other SEO Companies include this to pad out their service so they can charge more.

Why would you analyse your competitors websites ?

What are they actually analysing ? what do you think they are looking at ?

The only thing that they can see by looking at your competitors websites are the keywords they are targeting. There's absolutely no other reason they would look at your competition.

Think about it, if you hire a plasterer to plaster your lounge he does not go and take a look at another plasterers work to see how he plastered a lounge.

The way a website is optimised is the same whether the website sells coat hangers, provides a massage service or sells classic motor bikes. The only thing that differs are the keywords the website is optimised for.

If an SEO Consultant needs to look at your competitors website optimisation then they do not know what they are doing.
